Ocado Retail is the world’s largest dedicated online grocery retailer, with over 40,000 products (more than a large, out-of-town supermarket), a quarter-of-a-million active customers, and 15% of the UK online grocery market.
Ocado continuously improve their warehouse control system’s efficiency, reliability and resilience. In 2017 Martin was engaged as a Software Engineer to upgrade the legacy systems at their Hatfield site.
Investigated, analysed and resolved situational problems; fixed Java and C# systems; updated Java legacy services to REST micro-services using Spring Boot; delivered using VMs, docker, kubernetes and gitlab pipelines; introduced good collaboration practices; extracted, transformed and loaded performance data into Google’s BigQuery analytic platform via a Kinesis pipeline.
Overall system efficiency improved, saving significant recurring costs.
