OI Maisor Ranch in Kenya runs over 800 head of camels of both indigenous African and Pakistani breeds.
Decades of paper records had accumulated in several lever-arch folders and hundreds of card indexes. Individual animals were easily referenced but statistical comparison of breeds or treatment were impractical.
At a monthly crush each animal’s condition (weight, medical conditions, response to treatments, breeding) was inspected and recorded.
We developed an early object-oriented database in Object Pascal, based on a human private practice medical system we were operating in the UK, to track and analyse breed effectiveness.
